Gillie Russell.

LITERARY AGENT - Children’s/YA/Adult

‘I love stories that stay in my mind, with voices that excite and tempt me to read on.’

Gillie’s passion is discovering new voices with a gift for great storytelling, in any genre, for children of 9+ to Young Adult. For 10 years she was Publishing Director for Children’s Fiction at HarperCollins where she published authors as diverse as Michael Morpurgo, Louise Rennison, Judith Kerr, John Green and Garth Nix, amongst many others.

Her clients include Moira Young, whose debut novel Blood Red Road, the first book in the Dustlands Trilogy, won the Costa Children’s Book Award and has been optioned for film, and sold world-wide, and Mark Lowery, whose first two comic novels were shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, and whose book Charlie & Me has been optioned for film. Other authors include Emily Thomas, S. E. Durrant, Jane Hardstaff, Poppy David, Rhian Ivory and Nicola Penfold.

Gillie also represents a few adult authors. ‘I love Kate Atkinson, for example, and I’m looking for women’s commercial/literary fiction that has that ability to involve the reader through wonderful characterisation and observation combined with a strong narrative style. It’s the voice that is most important for me.’
